A tooth abscess is a dangerous affliction that can hurt your mouth, and more if you do not get it treated promptly. However, it is not always easy to tell that you have an abscess. Sometimes the symptoms are easy to diagnose, but other times, the symptoms appear to be totally benign.

If you are not feeling well and have any of the symptoms listed below, you may want to contact your dentist along with your doctor for a checkup.

The Symptoms of a Tooth Abscess

Because an abscess is an infection that is based on bacteria, it is important that you know the symptoms to keep yourself and those you love, safe in the event that an abscess rears its ugly head. The mild symptoms of an abscess include a mild headache, a bit of tenderness in your tooth, gums, or jaw, a dull ache in your neck, or even hypersensitive teeth to a sudden change of temperature.

Moderate symptoms of an abscess include tooth and gum pain, mild swelling of the jaw or face, and a bit of sensitivity to pressure in the area of the abscess. If you get to the point of having extreme levels of pain, a fever, chills, and noticeably swollen lymph nodes, then you need to go in and get your tooth checked out immediately. A ruptured abscess releases a lot of toxins into your body that would be much better avoided, if at all possible.

Don't take an abscess lightly, as it is a dangerous condition to have. If you even have the mildest hint that you could be facing an abscess, it is best to contact our office. He or she can check and if you were right, treat it on the spot. The sooner you get treatment, the healthier you can remain.
